Android Skinning Begins

Thanks to living_sword over at ModMyGphone, it looks as though the age of skinned Android phones has begun. Thus far, the mod requires a Jailbroken phone and the status icons are the only items to be altered.
 
The process is a bit complicated, but hopefully an application will be developed to allow for easy theme changes.

I am currently using a G1 on a T-Mobile account with the Total Internet add-on. Up until today, everything has worked flawlessly. This morning I started receiving the below message in the web browser when trying to acces the internet:

Google pushes RC30 update to patch ‘Jailbreak’

Google responded quickly to the recent security breach on the G1. The company is pushing an update to close this hole in the next few days.

While the idea of having to ‘Jailbreak’ an open system seems a little redundant, it is a necessary step for those wishing to gain root access to their devices. FBReaderJ is a new ebook reader available for the Android platform. It is a clone of FBReader, which has been previously released on a number of platforms. Currently the app supports a limited number of formats, but hopefully this will expand with further releases.

First G1 tethering method found

Meebo coming to Android November 7th
